09/10/23 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 9 October, the European Council definitively ratified the text of the agreement creating a geographical indication (GI) for certain industrial and craft products. The text, largely approved by MEPs at the September plenary session (see EUROPE 13248/10), provides for protection of industrial products similar to that already in place for regionally produced food and drink. Once it has come into force, this regulation will enable craftspeople to register their GI with the national authorities, which will then have one year to submit the file to the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
