Wopke Hoekstra officially appointed European Commissioner for Climate Action

09/10/2023 (Agence Europe)The Council of the European Union made official, on Monday 9 October, the appointment of Wopke Hoekstra, former Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, to the post of European Commissioner for Climate Action. This decision, taken jointly with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, follows the resignation of Frans Timmermans from his role as Executive Vice-President of the Commission responsible for the European Green Deal (see EUROPE 13234/3). While Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič will steer the European Green Deal, Mr Hoekstra will manage the climate portfolio under his leadership (see EUROPE 13243/10). He will serve until the end of the Commission’s current mandate, scheduled for 31 October 2024. To read Wopke Hoekstra’s mission letter: https://aeur.eu/f/8fp (NP)
