09/10/23 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 9 October, the EU Council adopted the provisional agreement reached at the end of April with the European Parliament on the ‘ReFuel Aviation’ regulation on the deployment of sustainable fuels in aviation (SAF), which is part of the ‘Green Deal’ (see EUROPE 13203/33). “By kick-starting the large-scale production of sustainable aviation fuels, it will soon make the EU’s aviation sector much greener”, said Raquel Sánchez Jiménez, Spain’s Transport Minister, in a press release. “This is a key step in our broader effort to reach our climate targets at European and global level”, she added. This regulation sets out a roadmap for reducing the sector’s CO2 emissions by replacing paraffin with sustainable fuels. The European Parliament approved the agreement in September (see EUROPE 13249/18). Read the rules: https://aeur.eu/f/8yj (AD)
