20/11/2023 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, will inaugurate the Parliament’s new building in Strasbourg, in the company of the French Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne, at around 10am on Tuesday 21 November. The building, named ‘Simone Veil’ in honour of the former French President of Parliament, has been leased by the institution from the French State since June and includes office and meeting space. The ‘Veil’ building will be reserved for administrative use and will accommodate around 700 General Secretariat staff. Its use should make it possible to “free up space in the central buildings” in Strasbourg, in order to “transform them into meeting rooms for parliamentary work”, according to the Parliament’s website. The 99-year long lease is 700,000 euros a year for the European institution. (IS)
