13/11/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 13 November, the EU Council of Ministers adopted the regulation revising the control system for fishing operations. Italy and Finland voted against the text, while Portugal and Latvia abstained (see EUROPE 13284/14). The regulation will enter into force 20 days after it is published in the Official Journal of the EU. However, a number of measures will be implemented progressively. All fishing vessels will be tracked by satellite vessel monitoring systems and all catches must be recorded electronically. In the case of certain small-scale fishing vessels (-9 metres), exemptions from the monitoring requirement may be granted until 31 December 2029. The obligation to have on-board cameras (to monitor the ban on discharging fish into the sea) applies to vessels over 18 metres long that present a high risk of non-compliance. (LC)
