On Monday 13 November, the European Union unveiled a new tool for exporting companies in the EU, entitled ‘Access2Conformity’.
This tool will enable European exporters to obtain all the details relating to the regulation of exports, country by country, such as customs duties, taxes, procedures, formalities, rules of origin, export measures or barriers to trade.
Its aim is to “reduce red tape by making better use of the EU’s Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) with third countries”, says the Commission in a press release.
MRAs allow exporters to designate their own conformity assessment bodies (CABs) to test and certify exported products to ensure that they comply with the rules and regulations of the importer’s country of origin.
The Commission also points out that “reduced paperwork makes it up to 50% more likely that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will export”.
The announcement of this tool comes at a time when the Commission is actively working to facilitate the activities of SMEs in Europe, in particular by reducing the administrative burdens and legislation affecting them (see EUROPE 13248/21).
