13/11/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 13 November, the European Foreign Affairs Ministers announced that the European Union had decided to extend its sanctions against 54 dignitaries of the Maduro regime “exceptionally”, for 6 months, until Tuesday 14 May 2024, instead of one year. One of the people sanctioned has died and has been removed from the list. The EU is thus sending a cautious signal aimed at encouraging the Venezuelan authorities to respect the Barbados agreements reached with representatives of the political opposition, which could lead to the organisation of democratic elections in the second half of 2024 (see EUROPE 13278/33).
