Brussels, 05/03/2009 (Agence Europe) - As humanitarian and development agencies are becoming alarmed about the consequences that an over-cautious withholding of official development aid on the part of the G8 and the G20 could have on the poorest countries, the European Commission pointed out on Thursday 5 March that it, at least, will be continuing to assist populations in distress, especially in Africa, a continent which mobilises over half of the Commission's emergency aid budget.
