Commission brings proceedings against Italy and Belgium for failing to recover illegal aid

Brussels, 26/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has decided to take Italy and Belgium to the Court of Justice for failing to recover illegal aid. Italy has not conformed to the decision of 20 October 2004 requiring it to recover aid from businesses affected by natural disasters in 2002. Belgium has failed to apply the decision of 24 April 2002 declaring the aid granted by Walloon authorities to the Beaulieu group incompatible.
