Avril Doyle calls on Commission to condemn use of live dogs and cats as shark bait

Brussels, 08/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - MEP Avril Doyle (EPP-ED, Ireland) was “shocked and disgusted” to learn from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) that live cats and dogs are used as shark bait in the island of the Reunion (French overseas department). Hooks are said to be skewered through the snout or legs of the animals which are then dragged behind boats to attract the sharks.
