Brussels, 28/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - In July 2005 euro-zone trade with the rest of the world in July 2005 saw a 7.2 billion euro surplus, compared with +12.9 bn in July 2004. The June 20052 balance was +7.6 bn, compared with +8.3 bn in June 2004. The energy deficit grew strongly (-95.4 bn euro in January-June 2005 compared with -65.3 bn in January-June 2004), while the surplus for machinery and vehicles rose (+46.1 bn compared with +36.6 bn). The surplus in the chemicals sector increased slightly (+32.6 bn compared with +31.6 bn). exports to China (-2% in January-June 2005 compared with January-June 2004) and imports from Japan (-3%) and Canada (-1%) which fell, as well as exports to Japan and imports from United States which remained stable, EU25 trade flows with its major partners grew. Concerning the total trade of Member States, the largest surplus was observed in Germany (+83.5 bn euro in January-June 2005), followed by the Netherlands (+19.0 bn), Ireland (+17.0 bn) and Sweden (+9.2 bn). The United Kingdom (-47.5 bn) registered the largest deficit, followed by Spain (-34.7 bn), Greece (-14.7 bn) and France (- 13.9).
