28/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - Three Italian members of the European Parliament call on the countries of the European Union to refuse to import, from third countries, consumer goods containing chemical components that are harmful for health and which are banned in the EU. Their aim is to “safeguard the textile, clothing and footwear sector in Europe, today threatened by strong Chinese competition”, Mario Mantovani (EPP-ED), Luciana Sbarbati (ALDE) and Adriana Poli Bortone (UEN) state in a press release. “We are not fighting to closer our borders to China but we certainly cannot continue to be competitive in a situation of competition that is distorted by non-compliance with the rules on the part of the Chinese”, Ms Sbarbati said.
