Almunia against unilateral measures to put brakes on sharp oil price hikes - question will probably be discussed during informal ECOFIN meeting on 10-11 September

Brussels, 24/08/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commissioner for economic and monetary affairs, Joaquin Almunia is concerned at the increase in oil prices but considers that no Member State should take unitlateral measures to deal with it. Speaking to journalists on Monday, Mr Almunia indicated that he agreed on this point with the new Italian minister of the economy Domencio Siniscalco (Giuliano Tremonti's successor).
