02/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - The EU has rejected Burkina Faso's application to join the sugar protocol of the partnership agreement between the EU and the ACP countries. This Council decision was published in the Official Journal of 1 July 2004. The EU feels that the country "is not a net exporter of sugar", and that it "cannot export sugar on a permanent basis".
