He draft negotiating mandate for the new import regime for bananas returns to College level, Wednesday

Brussels, 28/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission was due to adopt a proposal on Wednesday to invite the member states to give it a negotiating mandate in the WTO on the implementation of the new Community import regime for bananas. This sensitive dossier is therefore returning to college level (see EUROPE of 19 May, p.16). The proposal was twice blocked in the written procedure, first by the cabinet of Commissioner Pascal Lamy, and then by the Spanish Commissioners.
