28/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - British Airways (BA), quoted by AFP, deems the proposals made by the Americans in light of the conclusion of an "Open Skies" agreement between the EU and the United States (see EUROPE of yesterday, p.13, on the subject of the negotiations, which resume next Tuesday) to be "inequitable" and "protectionist". Andrew Cahn, a representative of the British airline, reproached the Americans for offering Europe "the minimum to ensure the continuation of negotiations", and for continuing to protect "inefficient and heavily subsidised American airlines" against real competition while still giving them "unlimited access to our markets".
