28/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - The High Representative for the CFSP, Javier Solana, has congratulated the new Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, declaring himself confident that the next EU/India summit would allow a further deepening of existing cooperation. "Our dialogue on political and security issues has made very good progress over the last few years", said Mr Solana. He also told Mr Singh "I have been encouraged by your public commitment to the continuation of the bilateral dialogue" with Pakistan, because the EU continues to see this dialogue as the only means to resolve outstanding issues in the region, in line with the declarations made at the recent SAARC summit (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation), which demonstrated the region's desire for "peace, stability and economic prosperity".
