Brussels, 19/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Italian Ministry for Employment and Social Policy is holding a seminar, under the aegis of the European Commission, in Côme on 20 and 21 November, on "Immigration: labour market and integration". The President of the EU's Employment and Social Policy Council, Roberto Maroni, and Director General for the European Commission's DG Employment, Odile Quintin, will open the work, to be attended by Employment and Social Policy Ministers from the enlarged Europe and Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Croatia and the Russian Federation.
The seminar will be based around three sessions on: 1) immigration, economic integration and labour market policy in Europe (management of migratory fluxes for employment reasons, instruments to meet halfway between the supply and demand for foreign labour, the professional inclusion of immigrants); 2) policy for the social integration of immigrants, including second-generation immigrants and opportunities for immigrant entrepreneurs; 3) the challenges of enlargement from the perspective of free movement of workers, and central and eastern European countries as destination countries for migratory fluxes.
