Brussels, 19/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Palestinian Authority and Israel signed an electricity distribution agreement at the end of October. The agreement was signed by representatives form the Palestinian energy and natural resources ministry and energy distribution companies as well as by Israeli foreign affairs ministers and representative from the Israeli Electricity Corporation (IEC), a sector company. The European Commission took part as an observer in the negotiations of the agreement, as well as a witness to the application of what had been arranged, namely, the provision of reduced price Israeli electricity to Palestinian consumers.
In parallel to this agreement, the European Commission confirmed its aim to contribute to improving infrastructure in this zone, in compliance with the commitment already made in the Euro Mediterranean Energy Ring, for increasing cooperation capacity between neighbouring countries and creating a vast energy network around the Mediterranean.
