Contradictory rumours about Washington's reaction after Geneva disapproval of US surcharges on steel imports

Brussels, 12/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - At the announcement of the definitive disapproval voiced in Geneva regarding US surcharges on steel imports (see EUROPE of 11 November, p.7) the Union and seven countries also penalised by these measures (Japan, China, Korea, Brazil, Switzerland, Norway and New Zealand) called on President George Bush to bring this to an end as quickly as possible to prevent a trade war without precedent from breaking out.
