Divisions over abandonment of unanimity - Cooperation between 25 impossible with unanimity, warns Commissioner Vitorino

Veria, 31/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - Maintaining unanimity in terms of Justice and Home Affairs would be the best recipe for blocking everything, warned Commissioner Vitorino in the face of reticence from many Member States. The first debate between EU 15 Ministers for Justice on the abandonment of the unanimity rule for the adoption of decisions in this field, which took place during the informal JHA Council in Veria, confirmed the continuing strong opposition towards this development...
