Commission denies criticism of World Bank regarding Common Agricultural Policy

Brussels, 26/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - Last week, the European Commission responded to criticism on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) expressed on 20 September in an article by The Financial Times by the Chief Economist of the World Bank, Nick Stern. Commissioners Franz Fischler and Pascal Lamy wrote to Mr Stern saying he was wrong to state that the conclusions of the European Council of Brussels sounded the knell for CAP reform.
