Council majority in favour of lowering thresholds for eligibility to "Marco Polo" financing, but no majority on overall budget

Luxembourg, 03/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the Transport Council did not reach an agreement on the financing for the "Marco Polo" programme intended to support the development of combined transport and alternatives to road transport. The Danish Presidency had proposed that the allocation should be EUR 60 million over four years (2002/2006), supported by a majority of Member States (S, F, D, FIN, A, UK, NL, IRL, DK).
