Eurostat claims insurance market still restructuring - steady development of supplementary pension funds

Brussels, 24/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - according to the fourth comprehensive report on the insurance sector published by Eurostat on Thursday, the sector in the EU included 3903 enterprises with a total turnover of EUR 760 billion. Compared to 1996, the number of insurance companies decreased by one third (33.7%). Eurostat also indicated that the number of non-life insurance companies declined by 15.3% with the number of life insurance enterprises remaining stable (+0.6%) due to the general...
