Belgian Presidency prepares for bilateral negotiations with Member States to try to break deadlock on Community patent by end of year - Council to discuss issue on Thursday

Brussels, 24/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - the Internal Market Council will discuss the creation of a Community patent at its meeting in Brussels on Thursday. The Belgian Presidency will then begin, early-October, with a series of bilateral meetings with Member States to try to find a comprehensive compromise and reach agreement by the end of the year, as requested by the Heads of State of Government at the Feira and Lisbon Summits.
