Schwimmer stresses Islam's contribution to European values and identity

Strasbourg, 24/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - In a speech on European identity delivered last Thursday in Strasbourg, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Walter Schwimmer, declared: "When discussing European identity, we should not lose sight of the enormous influence that the major religions of the world - Judaism, Christianity and Islam - have had on the genesis of our values and our common ideals.
