The forestry and paper group GEORGIA-PACIFIC CORP is to buy up the paper factory FORT JAMES CORP (turnover $6.8 billion in 1999 with 24,800 employed) for the sum of around $11 billion, including debt takeover. The new entity, which is now claiming the first place worldwide on the market of paper for household use, is expected to have made a proforma turnover last year of around $25 billion.
