Ecofin Council plans to closely follow economic development in applicant countries (mainly public finance and debt) and their "exchange strategies"

Brussels, 18/07/2000 (Agence Europe) - As briefly announced in EUROPE (see yesterday's bulletin, page 8), the Ecofin Council held on Monday decided to become involved in the problem of enlargement in order to contribute to the economic stability and exchange strategy of applicant countries. We give below the conclusions adopted by the Council in this connection. (unofficial translation)
