Spain: According to the French economic daily Le Figaro Economie, Spanish foreign investments in 1999 reached EUR 77 billion, 63% of which was in Latin America. The European Union only ranks second, explains the newspaper, as competition brought about by the single market and the euro launched Spain in its favourite emergent market, its former American colonies and Brazil.
