WWF calls for negotiators to consider effects of trade liberalisation on the environment

Brussels, 13/06/2000 (Agence Europe) - The environmental group WWF is urging the EU and Mercosur to place sustainable development at the heart of the negotiation of their new association agreement (see EUROPE of 10 June, pp. 7/8). At the second round of meetings to prepare a free trade agreement, WWF voiced concern over the effects of liberalisation and the expansion of export-based agriculture on tropical forests in Latin America.
