After noting situation still not satisfactory, European Commission calls for banks and Member States to lower charges for cross-border payments

Brussels, 23/05/2000 (Agence Europe) - Despite the elimination of exchange risks in the euro zone, cross-border bank transfers remain more costly than national bank transfers, according to a survey carried out on behalf of the European Commission by an independent institute. While a transfer of one hundred euros normally costs less than one euro within the 11 States of the Euro-zone, the same amount transferred from one country to another entails charges of 17.10 euros on average, and in 25%...
