European Commission interprets concepts of freedom to provide services and the general interest to encourage cross-border insurance activities

Brussels, 08/02/2000 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission published on Tuesday a communication spelling out its interpretation of the concepts of freedom to provide services and the general good as applied to the insurance industry. "Doubts remaining about the interpretation of these concepts are liable to deter insurance undertakings from using the freedoms created by the Treaty in carrying out their insurance business in the Community.
