SECTORAL POLICIES / Migration

Most EU countries have advanced aid pledges under first solidarity pool of ‘Asylum and Migration Pact’

Forty-two million euros of financial aid provided by Spain, 4,555 and 3,361 relocations of people to Germany and France from countries designated as ‘under migratory pressure’, 661 for Romania, 14 for Malta and 15 for Luxembourg. Greece will also be able to help other countries with €7 million to support various support measures. Italy has advanced financial aid of €54 million, and the Netherlands €21.9 million.

These are the promises made on 8 December by the Member States as they gave the green light to the very first solidarity pool for 2026, created by the ‘Asylum and Migration Pact’ (see EUROPE 13769/11).

A document dated 9 December updates the various commitments made by member countries. According to the table, Finland and Sweden have also pledged to provide financial assistance of €5.9 million and €11.6 million respectively to the countries under pressure.

Logically, Hungary, which refuses to apply the ‘Pact’, has not made any commitments either. Neither Slovakia nor Portugal had yet announced their intentions at the start of the week.

The commitments agreed by the EU Council for the second half of 2026 involve 21,000 relocations and/or €420 million in financial aid.
