12/12/2025 (Agence Europe) – The Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union plans to begin the trilogues on the revisions to the Asylum Procedure Regulation concerning the concepts of ‘safe third countries’ (STC) and ‘safe countries of origin’ (SCO) on Wednesday 17 December, once they have been confirmed at the plenary session in Strasbourg. The two negotiating mandates will be contested in principle, but a new ‘Venezuela’ majority should be formed to confirm the votes taken in the parliamentary committee on 3 December (see EUROPE 13765/8). The mandates of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU are close and have only marginally modified the Commission’s proposals. Negotiations could therefore move quickly. (SP)
