20/11/25 (Agence Europe) – Following the violence that took place during the last presidential elections in Tanzania (see EUROPE 13744/14), MEP members of European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and Committee on Development (DEVE) voted on Thursday 20 November by a large majority (53 votes for, 2 against and one abstention) in favour of a draft resolution to cancel the 2026 provision of European funds to Tanzania provided for in a European Commission implementing act under the ‘NDICI-Global Europe’ regulation. “This is a clear political signal that the EU cannot proceed on the basis of documents that ignore repression, fraudulent elections and the government’s authoritarian rule”, said AFET Committee Chair David McAllister (EPP, German) on X. The text will be put to a vote in European Parliament’s plenary session at the end of November. See the motion for a resolution: https://aeur.eu/f/jk1 (BD)
