20/11/25 (Agence Europe) – In a press release issued on Wednesday 19 November, the European Commission announced that the cities of Tampere in Finland and Dubrovnik in Croatia have respectively been designated ‘European Capital of Smart Tourism’ and ‘European Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism’ for 2026. They are being rewarded for their work on accessibility, sustainability, digitalisation and cultural heritage. Tampere stood out thanks to its innovative practices and balanced vision of sustainable growth. Dubrovnik made an impression with its pioneering approach to sustainability and its comprehensive, data-driven tourism management. This year’s competitions saw an increase in the number of entrants from a wide range of countries.
