European Commission seeking views on how to further streamline its digital legislative arsenal

Alongside its communication on the ‘Omnibus’ legislative package to simplify regulation in the digital sector, on Wednesday 19 November the European Commission also launched its ‘Digital Fitness Check’, a call for consultations on the way in which this regulation should be structured.

It calls on the sectors concerned to detail the conflicts of rules and concepts arising from the accumulation of different pieces of European legislation, particularly in the areas of data, online services and cybersecurity.

The Commission has already carried out this cross-checking and analysis work for the Digital Services Act (DSA) and its relationship with some fifty other texts (see EUROPE 13753/9).

The consultation is open until 11 March 2026. The assessment report to emerge from this consultation is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2027.
