EMIR - European Commission sets out details of new requirements for active accounts

17/10/2025 (Agence Europe)On Friday 17 October, the European Commission issued a delegated act setting out the details of the new active account requirements provided for in the EMIR 3 legislative reform (see EUROPE 13527/34). These rules require certain counterparties to hold an active account with a central counterparty (CCP) in the EU (see EUROPE 13718/29) and to clear a representative number of transactions there. The aim is to make European clearing services more attractive and reduce dependence on third-country CCPs. The delegated act specifies the volume of transactions concerned and the monitoring procedures, said the Commission in a press release. The act will be submitted to the European Parliament and the Council of the EU for examination before publication in the Official Journal of the EU. Contacted by Agence Europe, the Commission said on Friday that the document would be made public in the next few days. (BD)
