Brussels, 13/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 13 October, the ‘Justice and Home Affairs’ Council adopted the agreement with the European Parliament to revise and update the mandate of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). This agreement, concluded in May, should strengthen the role of EMSA (see EUROPE 13644/11) by establishing a more appropriate legal basis for fulfilling its missions in a number of areas, such as preventing and tackling pollution, decarbonisation, surveillance and raising awareness of the maritime world. EMSA will also be able to provide assistance for the implementation of the ‘FuelEU’ Maritime Regulation on infrastructure for alternative fuels (see EUROPE 13561/8) and the extension of the ‘Emissions Trading System’ (‘ETS’) to maritime transport (see EUROPE 13618/18). The European Parliament approved the agreement in June (see EUROPE 13666/41). Read the text: https://aeur.eu/f/ixe (AD)
