13/10/25 (Agence Europe) – Oceana, an international organisation dedicated to protecting the oceans, has appointed Vera Coelho as Executive Director and Vice-President for Europe, according to a press release published on Monday 13 October. A member of Oceana since 2020 and Deputy Vice-President since 2022, she has contributed to more than twenty major policy advances for European waters, according to the press release. Under her leadership, Oceana intends to increase transparency in the fishing industry, promote sustainable practices and expand marine protected areas to preserve Europe’s marine ecosystems. Ms Coelho said that she wanted Europe to become a global leader in ocean conservation and restoration, based on robust scientific policies that serve coastal communities and the climate. (LC)
