13/10/25 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 10 October, the European Commission published a report (https://aeur.eu/f/ix6 ) on the implementation and compliance of the plant passport system in the Member States. These passports, issued by the competent authorities or professional operators, guarantee that plants circulating within the EU comply with strict plant health requirements. The report concludes that, on the whole, the system is working well to reduce major health risks. However, it stresses the need to strengthen official controls on operators authorised to issue these passports in order to improve their reliability and better protect plant health throughout the European Union. By strengthening these measures, the reliability of the plant passport system can be further improved, ensuring that plants moving under these passports are free from regulated harmful organisms and that high plant health standards are maintained across the European Union.
