Brussels, 13/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 13 October, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the regulation on the European Research Area (ERA). Its aim is to strengthen Europe’s research and innovation ecosystem by addressing long-standing problems such as fragmented regulation, uneven investment in research and development (R&D) and barriers to the mobility of researchers. The ERA regulation should define the way forward to achieve 3% of GDP investment in R&D, improve coordination between European and national policies, and enhance careers in research, open science practices and cross-border collaboration. This consultation follows an initial call for evidence, which closed in September (see EUROPE 13696/18). The consultation is open until Monday 5 January.
