13/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – The EU Council has issued its final approval of the Toy Safety Directive (see EUROPE 13533/31), following the provisional agreement reached in trilogue last April (see EUROPE 13620/4). This is the penultimate stage before the formal adoption of the Directive and its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. This new legislation strengthens protection against harmful chemical substances by prohibiting the presence of certain endocrine disruptors, skin sensitisers and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (known as PFAS). The Directive also encourages the introduction of digital passports for the products concerned. The European Parliament is expected to vote in favour of the finalised text during its November session. (IS)
