On Tuesday 23 September, the European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) had a hearing for the three candidates for the post of Chair of the Sustainability Reporting Board of the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG). It then voted behind closed doors.
In April, the European Commission organised a selection procedure for this post (see EUROPE 13614/29), occupied by Patrick de Cambourg (see EUROPE 12993/33). In particular, EFRAG is responsible for simplifying the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), as part of the ‘omnibus’ package (see EUROPE 13691/1).
The first candidate, Chiara Del Prete, drew on her experience as Chair of EFRAG’s technical expert group on sustainability reporting, which advises the Board. She stressed her determination to “respect the will of the legislators, align as much as possible with IFRS, without compromising on the EU’s independence”.
The second candidate, Kerstin Lopatta, is currently Vice-Chair of the Board. “My principles are continuity, acceptance, interoperability, connectivity, governance and management, as well as cooperation”, she said.
The third candidate, Adam Pradela, has been CFO Corporate Sustainability of the DHL logistics group since March 2024 and is a member of the Transition Implementation Group at the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). He called for stability. “The effective and practice-oriented implementation of the standard will be of critical crucial importance in the coming years”, he said.
The JURI Committee will communicate the results of the vote to the Commission in October. (Original version in French by Anne Damiani)
