On Monday 22 September, the President of the European Council, António Costa, announced that more than half of the EU Member States had now recognised a Palestinian state.
After Portugal on 21 September, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Malta recognised the state on 22 September. According to French President Emmanuel Macron, who had called for recognition, these countries have made “the choice of responsibility, demand and peace”.
