Steel safeguard should be most restrictive European Commission has ever applied, according to Stéphane Séjourné

23/09/2025 (Agence Europe)Speaking to members of the European Parliament’s Industry and Research Committee on Tuesday 23 September, Commission Vice-President Stéphane Séjourné promised to speed up work on safeguards for the steel sector. Romanian MEP Dan Nica (S&D) questioned him about the delay in publishing the text, which could not arrive until mid-October, according to European Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič. “The text has been produced, it is in the process of being submitted to the Commission for binding decisions, and we will have to assess this clause by the end of the month”, Stéphane Séjourné assured us. He went on to say that the safeguard would be “the most restrictive the Commission has ever had to take”. (LM)
