22/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 18 July, the Council of the European Union adopted a decision removing Choguel Maïga from the list of individuals subject to European Union sanctions. “This decision is based on the consideration that it is no longer justifiable to maintain the sanctions imposed on Choguel Maïga”, a spokesman for the European External Action Service (EEAS) told Agence Europe on Tuesday. A former Prime Minister, Mr Maïga was sanctioned because of his responsibility for actions that hindered the political transition in Mali. “The EU continues to support the people of Mali and reaffirms its readiness to accompany Mali in the restoration of constitutional order, dialogue and reconciliation”, stressed the EEAS spokesman. The EU Council’s decision was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on Monday 21 July. (BD)
