22/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent to the Danish Presidency of the EU Council on Thursday 17 July, around thirty companies, NGOs, advertising industry organisations and certification schemes called on EU Member States to relaunch trilogue negotiations on the Green Claims Directive. This directive is all the more necessary as enforcement of the directive on unfair commercial practices “cannot keep pace with widespread greenwashing”, according to ClientEarth, Back Market and the letter’s other signatories. At the end of June 2025, the European Commission threatened to withdraw its proposal for a directive on the eve of the final trilogue with the EU Council and Parliament, if the co-legislators did not exclude micro-enterprises from the text (see EUROPE 13665/11). For the signatories of the letter, this “signal[ed] a lack of commitment to countering misinformation and protecting consumers”. (FS)
