The European Union decided to grant Togo assistance worth €10 million over 30 months under the ‘European Peace Facility’ according to a legal act published in the Official Journal of the EU on Monday 21 July. The objectives of this measure are to strengthen the military and defence capabilities of the Togolese armed forces and to support them in their efforts to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country and the civilian population. In practical terms, the assistance will fund non-lethal equipment to support the deployment and organisation of the armed forces on the ground, as well as personal protective equipment, equipment to support daily life and counter-explosive devices. The assistance measure also finances related supplies and services, including technical training in relation to the equipment delivered, if required. (CG)
