Next trilogue on ‘green claims’ has been postponed by two weeks at European Parliament’s request

The final ‘round’ of interinstitutional negotiations between the Council of the EU and the European Parliament on the Green Claims Directive (see EUROPE 13628/3) has been postponed until 23 June, several sources confirmed to Agence Europe on Tuesday 3 June.

The European People’s Party had requested this postponement (see EUROPE 13650/8) in order to have time to carry out an impact study on the prior verification procedures envisaged in the directive. “The text has been extensively amended and simplified during the first two trilogues and differs from the Commission’s initial proposal”, a source told Agence Europe.

The reprieve obtained to date is just under two weeks, since the trilogue was initially scheduled for 10 June. Parliament’s two co-rapporteurs, Delara Burkhardt (S&D, German) and Sandro Gozi (Renew Europe, French), hope to reach an agreement before the end of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council at the end of June. (Original version in French by Florent Servia)
